TOPIC: Sequences and Series - Arithmetic Sequence or Arithmetic Progression - Formulas

This video is focused on finding the general rule for the nth term of a given arithmetic sequence or arithmetic progression. This is another video in the series of math tutorial videos about sequences and series. This is usually taught in class 10 (grade 10 maths) or class 11 (grade 11 maths). The topics included in this video are the following: (i) finding the first three terms of an arithmetic sequence given its general rule for its nth term (ii) formulating the general rule for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence given its first three terms The video starts with a quick recall of the basic concepts of arithmetic sequences or arithmetic progressions. The recall includes the terms and notations for arithmetic sequences such as the nth term, first term, common difference and the like. It uses examples for easier recall. Each topic includes an example and a practice exercise for you to try. To find the first three terms of an arithmetic sequence or arithmetic progression, the value of n in the general formula is changed with specific values. On the other hand, to find the general rule for an arithmetic sequence or progression given its first three terms, the formula an = a1 + (n -1)d will be used as a guide. A summary of the processes in finding the first three terms of an arithmetic sequence and also the processes in finding the general rule for a given arithmetic sequence with first three terms are stated at the last part of this video. The next videos will discuss more concepts of arithmetic progressions or arithmetic sequences. 🕘Video Sections🕘 0:00 Intro 0:56 Playlist of math tutorial videos and math proofs & derivations 1:45 Contents of the video 2:08 Quick recall of the basic concepts of arithmetic sequences 3:50 Finding the first three terms of an arithmetic sequence given its general rule 4:41 Practice exercise 7:01 Finding the general rule of an arithmetic sequence given its first three terms 8:15 Practice exercise 10:48 Summary of contents 11:21 Thank you 🎬NOTE: For a better viewing experience, please set the video in HD (1080p) mode. This is another visual and geometric way of representing the algebraic identity (a-b)^2. It uses basic plane figures such as squares and rectangles for the proof. The first visual proof of the algebraic identity a minus b squared can be found on the following link: 🎥 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9vvV... Prerequisite concepts: - area of a square - area of a rectangle - algebraic identity (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2 In this video, the algebraic identity (a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2 is again derived and explained geometrically. The visual proof starts with a rectangle with sides a and b. There are four (4) rectangles of the same dimensions used in the proof. The rectangles then are used to form quadrilaterals, which are proven to be squares, with areas (a+b)^2 and (a-b)2, respectively. The second area also used the areas of the other figures arriving at the algebraic identity (a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2. 🕘Video Sections🕘 0:00 Intro 1:49 Prerequisite concept 2:49 Start of the visual proof of a minus b whole squared 3:08 Four rectangles used in the visual proof 3:33 The four rectangles form a quadrilateral 4:32 Start of the derivation of the algebraic identity a minus b squared 8:17 The algebraic identity (a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2 8:29 Questions for today 8:50 Thank you 🎬NOTE: For a better viewing experience, please set the video in HD (1080p) mode.
